Michael Stephen Link died in his home in Astoria, Oregon, on August 27, 2013, in the care of his soulmate and wife, Gail Lynn Cameron. He was born in Sacramento, California, in 1952, to Norvell Stephen Link and Mary Catherine (Johnston) Link, where his father was stationed in the Air Force. He attended schools in Arizona, England and Washington State.
Always a lover of art and theater, he received his B.A. in art from the University of Puget Sound. He continued to pursue his love of art, especially sculpting, in the Seattle area for several years.
With Theda Spraklin and their young daughter, Stella, he moved to Astoria in the mid 1990s and opened up an espresso shop in downtown Astoria (“Astoria Coffeehouse”).
He loved community theater, especially his role as “Sneak” in “Shanghaied in Astoria.” Acting in “Lysistrata,” he met Gail, who he married in 2002. Michael is survived by his daughter, Stella Jane, his stepdaughter, Emily Rose, his 9 year old son, Andrew Michael Cameron Link, his grandson, Dersu Galileo Benavidez Cameron; his mother, Mary Catherine Link, his sister Kathy Schwanted, his brother, Bill Link and his nephew, David Schwanted.
The memorial service, reflecting Michael’s love of surfing, will be held Monday, September 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Indian Beach in Ecola State Park. Donations can be made to an account in his son’s name, Andrew M.C. Link, at TLC Federal Credit Union.
