Edward Murray Perkins

May 8, 1937 — September 14, 2013

Edward M. Perkins, 76, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at home in Hammond, Oregon. He was born May 8, 1937, near Le Roy, New York, to Avery and Lois Perkins. He graduated from Bucknell University, served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and married Sandra Caryl “Schatzie” Schatz on March 25, 1961. They moved to Portland in 1965, where they lived for 31 years and Ed worked as an accountant and controller for the Gates McDonald, Wilson Medlar & Twietmeyer and United Radio Supply Cos. He obtained his CPA in 1970 and opened his own practice in Northeast Portland in 1976, which he maintained until 1988, when he merged his business with the Nygaard, Mims and Hoffman firm.
Ed and Schatzie retired to the Oregon coast in 1996, where they lived at the Point Triumph Condominiums in Hammond. Ed enjoyed playing golf and socializing at the Astoria Golf and Country Club. He served as a deacon and elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and for many years on the board of the Hollywood Senior Center in Northeast Portland. Ed was a renowned genealogy buff, a highly-skilled woodworker and adored spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Schatzie Perkins, sons Ted and Carl Perkins, daughters-in-law Lisa and Kristina Perkins, granddaughters Emily, Lily and Jane Perkins and sister Ellen Simpson Perkins. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a man of great integrity with many friends and strong ties to his community. He will be deeply missed by those who have known and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held in Portland on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2013, followed by an open house at the home of Ted and Lisa Perkins. For more information on the service or the open house, please contact [email protected] .
An additional reception will be held the following week at the Astoria Golf and Country Club on Sunday Sept. 29, 2013, at 2:00 in the afternoon.
