Tommy L. Norlin passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 71.
Tommy was born on April 24, 1942, in Coos Bay, Oregon, and was the second son of Walter and Cora Norlin. He was eight years younger than his brother John, whom he loved dearly.
Tommy grew up in Coos Bay, Oregon, and attended Marshfield School at North Bend. Tommy met his true love Pamela Hynen in February of 1969, and they married on September, 12, 1970. They made their home together in both Knappa and Svensen.
Tommy worked at the Wauna paper mill and later at the Tongue Point Job Corps, where he was a bus driver. He enjoyed working with the “Jobies” and truly loved his work. Tommy had a passion for collectible cars. Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends. Most didn’t know this, but Tommy could sing beautifully; his favorite songs to sing were old classic rock and roll. He was also a 44-year member of the Astoria Order of the Elks Lodge.
Tommy’s spirit could light up a room and his laugh was infectious. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a husband, son, brother, God Father, and uncle. He is survived by wife Pamela Norlin of Svensen, sisters-in-law Marge Norlin of Houston, Texas, and Judy Flues of Astoria, aunt Ann Hynen of Svensen, and numerous nephews and nieces and cousins. Godchildren Cody & Christi Schmidt of Scappoose, Oregon, as well as a number of great-nieces and nephews, and his God “Brats” (Tommy’s words, of course!) Skyler and Brooklyn Schmidt.
Caldwell’s Luce-Layton is in charge of arrangements, and at Tommy’s request there will be no service; in lieu of flowers please send donations to the Knappa Food Bank.
