James Allen Crane

Allen, 65 of Astoria, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Astoria. He was born March 25, 1948, in Astoria, Oregon to William P. Crane and Shirley L. Luoma Crane Schoessler. Allen was raised in Astoria and graduated from Astoria High School in 1965. He attended Clatsop Community College and received his associate’s degree. Allen enlisted into the Navy and served from Feb. 17, 1969 to July 31, 1989. Allen married Lourdes Barrameda in the Philippines, September 22, 1973. Lourdes survives at the family home in Astoria. After Allen’s career with the Navy, he enrolled in Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management. Allen returned to Astoria and worked for the Warrenton Lumber Mill for a short period of time, then worked at Western Oregon Waste for over 20 years, and planned to retire in January of 2014. His hobbies included reading, working in the yard, building model train sets, jig-saw puzzles, traveling, camping, and spending time with family. Survivors are as follows: Daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Marcus Hinton and their children, Moriah and Darrien Hinton of Grayson, Georgia. Son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Rachele Crane and their children, Blake, Bradley, and Brianna Crane of Wilsonville, Oregon. Daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Andre Garcia and their children, Jagis, Isaac, Treden, and Syla Garcia of Laguna Hills, California. Sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Duane Velder of Seaside, Oregon. Sister and brother in-law, Alice and Ron Santilli of Hammond, Oregon. Step-father, Melvin Schoessler of Astoria Visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary. Graveside services with vault interment and military honors will be held Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
