Carl Henry Mead

Carl H. Mead passed away on December 31, 2013, at his home in Astoria, OR, after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Mead and Margret Petersen Mead.

He is survived by his two sisters; his children, Roxanne, Jim, Sue Ann and Debra; his stepdaughter, Cordie; his god-daughter, Connie; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of special friends, friends and acquaintances.

Carl was born May 15, 1931, in Sparta, Michigan. He opened his first business, Mead’s Upholstery, in Comstock Park, MI, in the late 1940s. He moved to Astoria, OR, in 1963, and re-established Mead’s Upholstery east of town on Marine Drive. Later, the business was renamed Mead Interiors and Upholstery, and moved to its present location at 3rd Street and Marine Drive.

In addition to his business, he enjoyed working with his hands, especially in woodworking. He also enjoyed visiting with his many customers, who became his friends.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9th, at Caldwell’s Funeral Home in Astoria. The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, with the burial following at Ocean View Cemetery. A “Celebration of Carl’s Life” will be held at the Moose Lodge following the interment.
