Lois Jean Rose was born March 18, 1930 in Maywood, California, to James K. and Lois F. Griswold. Jean graduated from Bell High School in Bell, California in 1947. She studied to be a LPN at U.C.L.A. until she met and married Earl (Bud) J. Goebel in 1948, later divorcing in 1952. Jean met and married the love of her life Arthur M. Rose on January 13, 1954, in North Long Beach, California. They resided in Anaheim, California, until September 1967, when they moved to Astoria, Oregon. They raised their daughter Lisa Renee'Lilley on a farm in Youngs River. After her daughter married in 1977, they moved to Dellmoor Loop Road in Warrenton, later moving out to Lewis & Clark in 1999 to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law Sam. Jean and Art were happily married for 53 years. Jean was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed working with her hands crocheting and knitting afghans, baby clothes and sweaters for her friends and family. She also knitted newborn hats for both Astoria and Seaside hospitals. She enjoyed hiking and walking. She loved to be around her friends whether they had two or four legs. She was known to always have treats tucked away in her pink coat pocket. She was well loved by dogs and humans all over town. She also had a special interest in cats, and worked with local animal welfare to help bring in cats to be spayed and neutered. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She loved watching her grandsons play sports growing up. She was very proud of all their accomplishments and loved them very much. She was very involved with her grandsons and was delighted to become a great-grandmother in 2007 to Anmaree. They shared the love of stuffed animals. Jean's occupations were cook, waitress, LPN-diabetic, sales clerk, veterinarian assistant and finally retire in June 1992 after 20 years of working for the State of Oregon Adult and Family Services Department. Organizations she was involved in were PERS Union, Rainbow Girls, Anaheim Bowling League, Astoria Food Bank and Clatsop County Rodeo Association, as well as over 20 years involved in the local 4-H clubs. Jean was preceded in death by her son Keith Rose; stepson Steve Rose; older brothers Gail and Jim Griswold of California; sister Anne Mulligan of Washington; her husband Art Rose in 2007; sister-in-law Jeanne Griswold. She is survived by her daughter Lisa R. Lilley and son-in-law Sam E. Lilley of Lewis and Clark; grandson Jason H. Lilley of Kunsan Air Force Base, Korea; daughter-in-law Becky M. Lilley and great-granddaughter Anmaree R. Lilley of Box Elder, SD; grandson Daniel A. Lilley and soon to be daughter-in-law Kenya Fulton of Lewis and Clark; brother Don Griswold of California; brother Lee and his wife Dorothy Griswold of California; as well as numerous nephews and nieces living in Oregon, Washington, California and Iowa. Jean's Celebration of Life was held at the Clatsop Retirement Village on January 26, 2014. The following day her family gathered to inter her cremated remains at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to the local hospice or River Song Foundation.
