Walter H. Nelson Jr. passed away February 17th, 2014, in Astoria, OR. at the age of 85. He was born in Astoria, on June 8th, 1928, to Walter H. Nelson Sr. and Gladys E. Nelson, and was an Astoria resident his entire life. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1946. He is survived by his wife Nancy of 65 years, children Phil Nelson & (Becky) of Astoria, Oregon, and Julie Wynn & (Phil) of Vancouver, Washington, and grandchildren David Nelson of Astoria, Oregon, and Caryn Hilmes (Todd) of Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a dairy farmer in the Lewis and Clark area, drove school bus for Lewis and Clark School District and later retired after over 20 years as a shareholder of Astoria Plywood Mill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging clams until failing eyesight prevented him from continuing. A graveside service for family members will be held Friday, February 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Ocean View Cemetery.
