Ruth Eileen Shoop

Ruth “Eileen” Shoop, 71, of Hammond, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, in Portland, with her family by her side. She was born September 20, 1942, in Woodlake, California, and was the daughter of William David Farmer and Ernst Kathleen Hamilton. Eileen grew up in California and in Mississippi. On August 4, 1961, Eileen married Kenneth Shoop in Long Beach, California, while Ken was still in the Navy. After a few years in California, Eileen and Ken moved up to the Pacific Northwest and lived at various locations, and then they served as missionaries in Papua, New Guinea, and in Guatemala. After their service was finished in the mission field, they moved to Hammond, Oregon, and have resided there since. Eileen’s hobbies included gardening, music, puzzles, and cooking. Her family remembers how she loved to serve the Lord and lend a helping hand to others. She is survived by her husband, Ken Shoop of Hammond, Oregon. Daughters and sons-in-law: Paula and Rory McDade Sr. of Somerton, AZ; Diane and Tim Grey, of Naples, ID; Carrie and Sam Jasmin of Warrenton, OR; Julie and Todd Hogan of Mt. Juliet, TN. Brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Carol Farmer of Warrenton, OR. 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also, numerous nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Karen Sue Kalac. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Warrenton Christian Church, 1376 S.E. Anchor, Warrenton, OR. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 91569 Hwy. 202, Astoria, OR. A reception will follow the graveside services at the church.
