Virginia Hendrickson, 94 passed peacefully in Portland, Oregon, Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was born March 24, 1920 in Astoria, Oregon, to Eli McConkey and Vivian Watson McConkey.
Virginia graduated from Astoria High School in 1937. Her first job was with First National Bank in Astoria in 1938. She then was employed by U.S. Bank and worked for them for several years.
September 27, 1941, she married Wm. Maurice “Maurie” Hendrickson. He preceded her in death November 5, 2001, after a 60-year marriage.
As a young newlywed, during the first year of WWII, she had a coast watching assignment at two different sites. While raising her family, Virginia was very active in the PTA, Girl Scouts, and was a 4-H Leader. She was very supportive of Clatsop Community College and worked on several committees.
Virginia was a community relations liaison with Tongue Point Job Corps Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, and volunteered many hours with the Clatsop County Food Bank.
Survivors include a son, Maurice E. Hendrickson of Astoria; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven A. and Adrienne Hendrickson of Charlottesville, Virginia; and a daughter, Mary Cote’ and husband Peter Miller of Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Grandchildren: Wallace Hendrickson and his wife Melody, Alicia Yelvington and her husband Jack, Jesse Hendrickson and his wife Margaret, Justin Cote’, Amy Wilson and her husband Gary, Wesley Hendrickson and his wife JoAnna, Jonathan Hendrickson, Brian Hendrickson, Katina Wood, David Wood, Andrew Richards, and Anna Richards.
Nieces and nephews: Millard Fudge, Marjorie Prieto, Joni Crick, and Suzan Iverson.
Also, numerous great-grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends young and old.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1103 Grand Ave., Astoria, Oregon.
Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside services at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
