Fredrick John Antilla, 94, passed away peacefully at his home June 11, 2014, in Astoria.
He was born October 21, 1919, in Astoria, to John U. Antilla and Pearl Marie Ostrom Antilla.
Fred grew up in Astoria and graduated from Astoria High School in 1939. He joined the Civil
Air Patrol and was a flight lieutenant from 1941-1943. He enlisted into the Army Air Corps
and served three years, from 1943-1946. His rank was PFC.
After his time in the service, he returned to Astoria and worked as a contract painter and paper hanger with his father. He also played music with his father, starting in 1938.
Fred was a member of a band, the M & Ms, from 1982-1989. He also played with various musicians. His hobbies, besides music, were traveling and dancing.
His affiliations included: Life member of the Astoria Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge in Astoria, American Legion Clatsop Post 12 for over 60 years, and the Eagles Lodge in Ocean Park, Washington.
Survivors include close friends David and Deonne Kinney, of Astoria, OR., Larry and Wilma Johnson of Eugene, OR., Ken and Terri Johnson of South Bay, CA., Michael Ala of Eugene, OR., Susan Ala of Ellsburg, OR., Don and Jeff Nelson of Astoria, and Gordene of Astoria.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, 91569 Hwy. 202, Astoria.
At 2:00 p.m., there will be a celebration of life and reception at the American Legion, 1132 Exchange St., Astoria, OR.
