William (Brad) Fields Bradshaw, age 88 of Warrenton, passed peacefully into eternity at his home in Warrenton, Oregon, with his loving wife at his side. Brad was born September 10, 1925, to Martin and Jessie Wood Bradshaw in Dickens, Texas. He was raised and received his education in Johnson City, Texas. At age 17, Brad enlisted in the Navy and served his country for 21 years in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the icebreaker USS Burton Island in the Antarctic and Alaska, and was a plank owner when the ship was commissioned. After retiring from the Navy, he resided in Clatsop County for 50 years. In February 1975, he married Mavis Nyberg Campbell in South Bend, Washington. Later, Brad became a member of the ILWU and worked on the waterfront until his retirement in 1991. He especially loved working on the raft. Brad served many years as the president of the ILWU Pensioners. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent his leisure time fishing, hunting, rock hounding and gardening. Brad enjoyed walking and was known in his neighborhood as “the mayor of Alder Manor.” Survivors include his wife, Mavis L. Bradshaw; two stepchildren. Dr. Robert J. Campbell (Tami) of Enumclaw, Washington, and Donna L. Ruby of Ft. Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Ginny and Gus Ruby and Brooks and Sam Campbell; and one great-grandson, Braden Ruby. He is also survived by one sister, Alice Maley of Rockport, Texas, and several nieces and nephews who reside in Texas. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Longshoremen’s Scholarship Fund, 491 Industry Street, Astoria, OR 97103, or the Warrenton First Baptist Church Building Fund, 30 NE First Street, Warrenton OR 97146. Visitation will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Warrenton, 30 NE First Street, Warrenton. OR. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Following the graveside services, the family cordially invites you to return to the church for a reception.
