Mary Chloe Williams Lovvold
June 18, 1928 – Aug. 19, 2014
Mary was born on June 18,1928, to Berwyn and Marion (Wagini) Williams in Astoria, OR. She lived part of her childhood in Chinook, WA, before moving back to Astoria and graduating from Astoria High School in 1946. Mary was a 1950 graduate of Oregon State University, and a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.
Mary married Howard Lovvold on July 16,1950.
Mary was a Home Economics and PE teacher at John Jacob Astor School from 1951-1953. She substitute taught for Astoria High School and Warrenton High School in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Astoria, active member of the United Methodist Women, Beta Sigma Phi, OSU Alumni Association, Clatsop County Historical Society and the Columbia River Maritime Museum. She also was a member of the Scandinavian Dancer Mothers Group that started the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival in 1967.
Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, traveling, reading, working on church service projects and family activities. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard and sister Ann Hendrickson.
Mary is survived by three daughters: Karen Grayum of Tualatin, OR, Nancy (David) Guerland of Redondo Beach, CA, and Linda (Ron) Dyer of Tualatin, OR. Two brothers: Dan (Maureen) Williams of Eugene, OR, and Rick (Melinda) Williams of Portland, OR. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Mark (Alex) Dyer of Baker City, OR, Christina Guerland of San Francisco, CA, and Ronda Dyer of Tualatin, OR, and one great-grandchild Brooke Dyer of Baker City, OR.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Astoria United Methodist Church or the Astoria High School Scholarship Fund.
Memorial services will be held Monday, August 25, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1076 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon 97103. A reception will follow the memorial services in the church fellowship hall.
