Glenn Patrick Williamson Sr.

September 29, 1963 — September 7, 2014

Devoted husband, father and pastor Sept. 29, 1963 — Sept. 7, 2014 Glenn Patrick Williamson, age 50, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 7th, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. His family and friends were by his side. Glenn was born September 29, 1963, in Derby, Conn., to Bernard and Joan Williamson. In 1982, Glenn graduated from Derby High School. He then entered into active duty for the Air Force in New Haven, Conn. He relocated to Omaha, Neb., where he continued to serve the Air Force as a SAC Elite Staff Sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1992. Glenn worked for Pepsi and The Omaha World Herald before finding his calling as a minister at Judson Baptist Church in La Vista, Neb., in 1998 where he served for 8 years. He then ministered as the senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Columbus, Neb., before moving to Astoria, Ore., where he has served for the past 3 years as the senior pastor at Astoria First Baptist Church. He had a tremendous love for the Lord and a love for the people he ministered with. People often referred to him as “your not-so-typical pastor” because he was covered in tattoos and wasn’t afraid to speak the truth. He spoke in a manner that truly reached people. His sermons were never boring! He loved living by the coast and spending time at the ocean. He enjoyed traveling a great deal, especially to Cancun, Mexico. He had a passion for his Harley Davidson motorcycle. It didn’t matter where he was going, as long as the wind was blowing through his long hair! But most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart, soul and strength. Glenn is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Glenn Jr., Garrick Sr., Trista (Omaha, Neb.), Eliana and Ocean (Astoria, Ore.); grandchild, Garrick Jr. (Omaha, Neb.); father, Bernard (Derby, Conn.); brothers, Terry and Lee and sister-in-law Betsy (Derby, Conn). He is preceded in death by his mother Joan Williamson. Visitation will be Thursday, September 11th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. A reception will follow at First Baptist Church in Astoria. Memorials may be made to Lower Columbia Hospice or Astoria First Baptist Church.
