Marcella Louise Lindsey

September 20, 1923 — September 11, 2014

Marcella Lindsey, unexpectedly but peacefully, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Sept 11, 2014, at the Clatsop Retirement Village in Astoria, while watching her two favorite TV game shows.
She was born on Sept 20, 1923, in Eastend Saskatchewan, Canada, the fifth of eight children born to William and Mabel Doney Wiley. Her family moved to Warrenton, Ore., in 1941. Marcella worked in local fish canneries and for the Astoria School District for a time. She then owned and operated Marcella’s Christian Supply Store in Astoria for many years. Her interests included Bible study, traveling, antique shopping, spending time with family and friends and studying local history. She wrote many articles about Warrenton history for the Columbia Press and also authored the book “Remembering Warrenton’s History,” published in 2011. Marcella enjoyed being involved in the Warrenton Senior Center from her retirement at age 63, until she moved to Clatsop Retirement Village in 2003. She had, in the past, been a longtime member of the Philadelphia Church in Hammond, Ore., where she also taught Sunday School. She is survived by two children, son Charles Lindsey (Sandra) of Pullman, Washington, and daughter Debra Lindsey of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren, Tricia Ross (John), Josh Lindsey (Anna), Jamie Sommers (Marcus); nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marvel Brons of Oregon City and Martha Tripp (Layton) of Deer Park, Washington. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Elvis Lindsey; a granddaughter, Janel Lindsey; sisters, Mildred Arendt and Maxine Skribe; and brothers, Bill Wiley, Pat Wiley and Albert Wiley.
The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Clatsop Retirement Village for their care, and to special friends Erna Wood of Warrenton, and Kathy Ray of Astoria, for their friendship and support for Marcella over the years. The memorial service will be at the Clatsop Retirement Village, at 947 Olney (2nd floor), Astoria, on Saturday, Sept. 27th at 2 p.m. There will be refreshments afterwards.
