Tom grew up in Odell, Oregon. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines and became a pilot, flying dive bombers. During flight training, in North Carolina, he met Betty Edwards. They married in Snow Hill, N.C., on July 29, 1944. After the war, they moved to Philadelphia, Pa., so Tom could go to dental school, graduating in 1952.
In 1953, Tom and Betty came to Astoria, and Tom opened a dental practice. He retired in 1986. Tom and Betty spent their lives together until Betty’s death in 2008, in Astoria.
Tom was known for his antics of flying his Stearman biplane over Astoria. In 1994, a fall left him with a paralyzing spinal cord injury. After which, he was noted for his antics up and down the streets of Astoria in his electric wheelchair.
He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, devotion to God and his family. Tom was a member of Lewis and Clark Bible Church.
