Richard "Dick" Kenneth Jackson

Richard “Dick” K. Jackson, 88, of Astoria died Thursday, October 9, 2014 in a Portland-area hospital. He was born to Fred and Susie Jackson, December 13, 1925, in Astoria. He graduated from Astoria High School.

He married Florence M. Johnson, March 19, 1949, in Astoria. She preceded him in death in 2006.

Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Air Force as a B-25 mechanic. He was a mechanic at Lovell Auto for 36 years, and then worked in the electric shop at McGregor’s Supply before retiring. He owned his own small business, Jackson Speedometer Service, from 1964-2012.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but enjoyed trapshooting the most. He was a member of the Pacific International Trapshooting Association, shooting over 150,000 registered targets. He was also a member of the Brownsmead, Knappa, Svensen Sportsmen’s Club, Ducks Unlimited, the Elks, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition, he was a member of the Clatsop County Duck Hunters Association, where he was instrumental in stopping the sale of the islands that now make up the Lewis and Clark Wildlife Refuge to private ownership. Dick was a member of the first committee of the North Coast Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and remained as a member for several years. He also started the local youth Greenwing Trapshoot, which is still held annually.

He is survived by two sons, David Jackson and his wife, Sharon, of Astoria, and Brian Jackson and his partner, Ron Rodriguez, of Renton, Wash.; two step-granddaughters, Hannah and Danielle Donayri of Astoria; and a brother, Bob Jackson and his wife, Arlene, of Woodburn, Ore.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Ore.

A memorial service will follow Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria.

Memorial contributions may be given to the North Coast Chapter of Ducks Unlimited for their Greenwing Program, in care of Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
