Robert Eugene Filori

March 31, 1949 — November 15, 2014

Robert Eugene Filori was born in Hibbing, Minn., on March 31, 1949, and passed away Nov. 15, 2014, from illnesses brought on by his exposure to Agent Orange. He was the son of Eugene Filori and Betty Willett Filori, and spent his childhood in Minnesota and Washington. He spent the last 40 years living in Clatsop County.

Bob enlisted in the Navy after high school, and did two tours of duty in Vietnam attached to the USS Hunterdon County. He served much of his time there on river patrol boats, and earned a Navy Achievement Medal.

When Bob returned to the states he earned his bachelor of science in education from the University of Washington, and later earned a master’s of education from the University of Portland and administration credentials from Lewis and Clark College.

He started his teaching career in Hartline, Wash., then taught in Morrow County, Ore., for a short time before coming to Warrenton where he taught for 19 years. He was recruited to teach at llwaco High School, and spent a few years teaching there and working as a principal before working at Tongue Point Job Corps. He also taught classes at Clatsop Community College. After retirement Bob substituted in many Clatsop County schools until illness forced him to stop. Teaching was his passion.

In 1980, Bob met and married Molly McClean. She survives him, as do his sons and daughter-in-law, David, Joseph (Brittany) and Nicholas, and his adored grandchildren, Isabella and Dylan. Bob is also survived by his sisters, Darlene Fails (Tom) and Marilyn Cook (Mike) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. Family meant the world to Bob and his love knew no bounds.

Bob served on the Clatsop County Fair Board. He was also a member of the Port of Astoria commissioners for a number of years.

A celebration of life will be held at the Broadway Middle School cafeteria on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m.
