Stuart Douglas Jordan

July 15, 1979 — January 1, 2015

Stuart Douglas Jordan, “Big Stu,” of Astoria, OR, passed away at home in his sleep the morning of January 1, 2015 at the age of 35. He was born July 15, 1979 to Leslie Steven Jordan and Kathryn Gail Rose at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, OR. He grew up in the Astoria, Warrenton Knappa and Vernonia areas.

Stuart’s youth was spent in Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and taking everything apart just to see how it worked, without regard to how to put it all back. He played tuba in the school band and played baseball, football and was on the wrestling team. His first job was delivering newspapers for The Daily Astorian. He loved camping, bicycling, and playing at the beach; most of all he loved spending time with people telling stories and jokes.

In his teens, Stuart met Laura Pietila and fell in love. They had their first child, Steven, in 1997. During this time, Stu worked for Johnson Oil and later the mill in Madras. Laura and Stuart welcomed their second child Daisy in 2001. Eventually, Stuart and Laura went their separate ways and Stu moved to Portland. He had a few jobs assembling cabinetry while he obtained his G.E.D. In class, he met Amie Ennis. They were married on October 10, 2004 and had two children, Fiona in 2005 and Allison in 2007.

He worked for Freightliner mounting tires until laid off. Stuart always wanted to operate a crane, so he went to school and earned his heavy equipment operator’s license and then worked for North Sky.

Later, Stuart and Amie divorced and he eventually moved back to Astoria. He worked several jobs, attended Clatsop Community College and then began working at Trails End Recovery and Custom Excavating. He joined the Seventh-day Adventist church and met Lisa Korte. They established a home together and enjoyed a rich family life. Lisa and Stuart were engaged to be married.

Stuart loved family, friends and cared deeply about the happiness and well-being of children. He was an Astoria Clown and frequently handed out balloons and candy at parades. He was a family guy and did anything he could to help his children and any other child he had the means to assist. He knew that family is far more inclusive than just biological relations and he extended that care and compassion often. He loved the people in his town and he enjoyed making people smile, laugh and feel the good in the world.

He is survived by his fiance Lisa Korte; his children Steven Jordan, Daisy Jordan, Fiona Jordan, Allison Jordan and Scott Korte; his mother Kathryn Gail Rose-Schultz of Portland, OR; his father Leslie Steven Jordan and Leslie’s wife Sali Diamond of Astoria, OR; his grandmother Dodie Ogden and grandfather Paul Ogden of Citrus Heights, CA; his great-grandmother Lucille Tompkins of Portland, OR; his siblings Heather Bouyear and Michael Bouyear of Vancouver WA, Lyn Schultz of Hillsboro, OR, Catherine Malkemus and Nate Malkemus of Warrenton OR, Michelle Parker and Cecil Parker ofAstoria OR, and Lance Diamond and Elizabeth Diamond of Astoria, OR; his nieces Elektra, B’Elanna, Jadzia, Kaytlyn, Mikayla, Briauna, Cha’leeah and Kylie; his nephews Luke, De’Vonte, Miles, Caleb and Troy; and his many aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers and two beloved dogs. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Stuart’s final arrangements were handled earlier through Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria. A celebration of Stuart’s life will be held on January 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at The Loft at the Red Building, located at 20 Basin St., in Astoria, OR. The Seventh-day Adventist Church of Astoria will officiate the service there, followed by a reception.

A nonprofit memorial fund for the education of Stuart’s children is being set up by his family at Wauna Federal Credit Union. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Stuart D. Jordan Memorial Education Fund and help to make his children’s dreams come true.
