Marguerite Elsie Zorich

June 20, 1920 — March 25, 2015

Marguerite E. Zorich, “Honey” to her family, 94, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at her son’s home in Portland, Ore.

She was born in Lake Stevens, Wash., June 20, 1920, to Albert Henry Baker and Aline Dangel Baker. She attended schools in Seattle, and graduated in 1938 from West Seattle High School.

Marguerite married Nicholas F. Zorich in Seattle, Wash., in 1938. They lived in Ketchikan, Alaska, for seven years, and she enjoyed raising her children. The family moved to Olney in 1945, and lived in Olney for 17 years. Marguerite cooked at Star of the Sea for three years. The family moved to Astoria in 1961, and he opened the Eat and Run restaurant until 1968. She then started her catering business. Marguerite moved with her husband to Warrenton in the 1980s. Her husband passed away Oct. 18, 2001. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, cooking and gardening.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas F. Zorich Jr. and his wife, Mary Kaye, of Beaverton; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Peggy Zorich of Astoria; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Cris Zorich of Battle Ground; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Linda Zorich of Astoria; a son, Jerome Zorich of Gresham; and a son, Philip Zorich and Robin Piper of Vancouver, Wash. She had 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by, a sister, Fran Ingersoll of Newport, Ore.; and a sister, Helen Voight of Sumner, Wash.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 5, 2015, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Monday, April 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Astoria. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
