Elton Albert Anderson

Elton was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Astoria, to Gust Albert Anderson and Mary Lillian Johnson Anderson.

Elton passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the age of 82. He attended Sylvandale and Knappa schools. In 1950, he took over the family dairy farm that dated back to 1889, and later honored as an Oregon Century Farm.

Elton married Marilyn Tozer Dec. 3, 1955, at the Westport, Ore., Community Church. Marilyn survives at the family home in Brownsmead.

In 1964, Elton built a mobile slaughter truck and traveled all over Clatsop County with this service. In 1970, he built a meat processing plant, and thus began Anderson’s Custom Meat Service, which he operated until 1992.

Elton was a member of the Knappa Water Association Board and the Brownsmead Drainage District No. 1, serving as chairman for many years.

Elton loved to fish in the Columbia River and raise Brownsmead peas and corn to give away to family and friends. After a hard day’s work, Elton would pick wild blackberries to relax.

Survivors besides his wife include two brothers, Richard Anderson of Astoria, and Charles Anderson of Kelso, Wash.; nieces, Marie Ann Randall of San Ramon, Calif, Susan Schaffrinna of Yakima, Wash., and Lori Anderson of Portland, Ore.; nephews, Gary Anderson of Astoria, Ore., Robert A. Luoto of Carlton, Ore., John Luoto of Tillamook, Ore., Dan Luoto of Bend, Ore., and Randy Luoto of Carlton, Ore.; a sister in law, Arlene Luoto of Carlton, Ore.; and a brother in law, Richard Gilpin of Beaverton, Ore.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 27, 2015, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Ore.

Graveside services will be held Monday, April 27, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Ore.

A reception will be held at the Astoria Elks Lodge following the graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter, 1315 S.E. 19th St., Warrenton, OR 97146.
