Emil Anderson Jr., 88, of Warrenton, Ore., passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015.

Emil was the youngest child born to Emil Anderson and Helen M. Lydick Anderson on April 6, 1927, in Nehalem, Ore. At the age of7, he and his family moved to Astoria, Ore.

In the spring of his senior year at Astoria High School, he was drafted into the Army and was at boot camp instead of his class graduation ceremony. He received his diploma after returning home. In the Army, he served as part of the occupying U.S. forces in Japan after World War II.

Emil and Lillian P. Johnsen were married on Feb. 23, 1952. They were married for 45 years, and together they raised three children. Emil enjoyed big band music, and Lillian always said he was a great dance partner.

For 28 years, Emil drove a truck for Darigold, delivering dairy products to many of the restaurants and stores in Astoria and Seaside. Later, he was a shareholder in the Astoria Plywood Mill, and also drove a truck for Bumble Bee Seafood.

Emil loved hunting and fishing. He, along with his family and friends, spent many vacations camping all around the Northwest. In his later years, you could find him at the Home Bakery every morning. He enjoyed the “stories” that were told, adding quite of few of his own. He was an outspoken man, and not shy about sharing his opinions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; his sister, Marion Towne; brothers, Jim Anderson and Howard Anderson; his grandson, Dakota “Cody” Anderson; and his mother and father in law, Gilbert and Signe Johnsen.

He is survived by his children, Debra Huffman and her husband, Art, of Astoria, Ore., and John Anderson and Robert Anderson, both of Warrenton, Ore.; his grandchildren, Jenna Rickenbach and her husband, Jared, of Astoria, Ore., Brandt Huffman and his wife, Leslie, of Oregon City, Ore., Kayla Budlong and her husband, Bryce, of Gates, Ore., Brennan Huffman of Prairie City, Ore., Jonathan Anderson and his wife, Chelsea, of Warrenton, Ore., Trista Anderson of Portland, Ore., and Faylene Brown and her husband, Danny, of Astoria, Ore.; and his great-grandchildren, Aaron, Alivia, Signe and Sophia Rickenbach of Astoria, Ore., Cody and Kaylee Huffman of Oregon City, Ore., and Natalie and Elsa Budlong of Gates, Ore.

The viewing is at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The memorial service is Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 12 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 350 Niagara Astoria, Ore., with a luncheon following the service.

A graveside service is Monday, June 1, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Ore.
