Margaret Statia Lindstrom, 91, a lifelong resident of Astoria, passed away May 31, 2015. Margaret was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Astoria, Ore., to August B. and Alice V. Wolfgram. She had four brothers, Norman, Lloyd, Maurice and Bernard. She attended Star of the Sea School, where she graduated in 1941. She then attended Marylhurst College, graduating in 1945 with a bachelor of arts degree.
Margaret married Carl W. Lindstrom Feb. 28, 1946. Together they raised seven children. Margaret’s greatest joy was homemaking and raising their family.
Margaret was employed at Bumble Bee Seafoods until its closing, and Peter Pan Market. She enjoyed family gatherings, with one favorite being clam feeds. She was an amazing storyteller, especially regarding the history of Astoria.
She was an accomplished artist producing many drawings and oil paintings. Her love of Astoria reflected in much of her art. She was an avid reader, who especially enjoyed biographies. She enjoyed old movies, classical music and the music from her generation, the 1940s. She appreciated a good laugh, whether from reruns of “MASH,” old comedians such as Danny Kaye and Tim Conway, or her many family members. Another joy of her life was the love and companionship of several adored cats.
Margaret is survived by sons Ed (Linda) Lindstrom of Keizer, Walt Lindstrom of Astoria, John (Jan) Lindstrom of Astoria, and Charlie (Ruthie) Lindstrom of Astoria; and daughters Susanne (Doug) Sheehan of Portland, and Margy (Keith) Linehan of Beaverton.
Margaret’s greatest blessings were her 15 grandchildren, Andy Lindstrom, Matt Lindstrom, Karl Lindstrom, Kathy Dietrich, David Lindstrom and Kara Morrow, all of Astoria; Tim Lindstrom of Yorktown, Va.; Patrick
Sheehan of Clackamas; Julie Sheehan of Portland; Michelle Lindstrom of Hammond; Matt Lindstrom of Knappa; Craig Linehan of Beaverton; Kaitlyn Linehan of Beaverton; Eric Lindstrom of Plantation, Fla.; and Kelly Lindstrom of West Linn. Margaret also has 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Lindstrom, on Aug. 28, 2006, after 60 years of marriage; and a son, Fred A. Lindstrom, in 1994.
