Terry Leonard Link

July 16, 1942 — July 6, 2015

Terry L. Link, 72, died after an extended illness. He was born to the late G. Leonard and Florence (Miller) Link of Astoria.

Terry graduated from Astoria High School, and went on to graduate from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in wildlife management and fisheries. He served several years in the National Guard.

He started his career with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as a marine biologist. He married Carol Jasper of Astoria, Ore., in June of 1968. They were blessed with 47 years together. Terry retired from the ODFW after 35 years, ending as the lead biologist for the NW Shellfish and Fisheries Department, working with crab, shrimp and probably best known as the “clam guy.”

Terry was passionate about hunting and fishing. He loved his Eastern Oregon hunting trips. Terry also spent countless hours volunteering; coaching basketball, softball and hardball, helping organize the Lewis and Clark softball program, and preparing softball fields. He was also a 4-H leader, and mentor to many youth in the county for many years. He encouraged his children and others to strive for excellence. Whether they were working for a blue ribbon or becoming a 4-H ambassador, he was there to help.

Terry was very talented and hard working. He built the home he raised his family in. He was an excellent photographer, butcher, taxidermist, organizer of events and, if it needed done, he could do it. He passed on his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and volunteering to his children. He will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Tristen (Richard Berg) of Sublimity, Ore., Cari (Jason Jones) of Astoria, Ore., Tina (Mark Nicholson) of Astoria, Ore., and Torrey (April Link) of Hermiston, Ore. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Michael, Cassie, and Nikki Berg, Teresa, Emily, and Cody Nicholson, Faith and Hope Jones, Hunter, Haile and Leah Link; a great-grandson, Jackson Berg; and a sister, Bonnie Link of Astoria, Ore.

A memorial service will be held on July 25 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Lewis and Clark Bible Church in Astoria, Ore.
