Lisa Rene Landwehr

July 30, 1967 — September 26, 2015

Lisa was born on July 30, 1967, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Laurie Bruns Landwehr and Richard Charles Landwehr. Lisa moved with her family to Astoria in 1974.

An animal lover from birth, Lisa got her first horse, Dusty, at the age of 9. They spent many years exploring together as Lisa poured out her heart to Dusty, her trusted confidant. Lisa attended Astoria High School, where she was a Pepster, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of Future Farmers of America.

After graduating from AHS in 1985, Lisa worked in a veterinary clinic and recognized her calling. She enrolled in Rock Creek Community College, where she earned her degree as a veterinary technician in 1992. When Lisa took the Veterinary Technician National Examination, she was one of the 75 highest ranking participants nationally.

Lisa married Ted Warila in Jamaica on May 12, 1995. They were married for 8 years.

Lisa worked as a vet tech for several years, and then began a pet sitting and housecleaning business. Lisa had a way with animals, and they trusted her instinctively. Lisa’s clients, humans and animals alike, loved her.

Lisa will be remembered for her quick wit and compassion for others; she loved with her whole heart. In addition to horses, she adopted dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, and others throughout her life. Lisa enjoyed mentoring teenage girls in horsemanship and responsibility for their care. She was also an artist and calligraphist.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Laurie B. Landwehr of Eugene; her father, Richard C. Landwehr of Astoria; her brother, Kevin D. Landwehr of Astoria; her closest cousin, Bria Lindsey Else of Eugene; her papillon-Pomeranian, Rocko; and numerous other beloved relatives who provided loving support throughout Lisa’s life.

Lisa, 48, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Her family is grateful for the care and kindness Lisa received from the hospital staff and physicians.

A cremation was held at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary of Astoria.

Lisa was remembered in a private gathering of family and close friends. The family requests that any donations in memory of Lisa be made to Clatsop Animal Assistance, P.O. Box 622, Warrenton, OR 97146.
