Ann Goldeen

June 11, 1952 — January 24, 2016

Ann Goldeen passed peacefully at home in the presence of her family, husband Barry Sears and daughters Leah Goodstein and Jasmine Golden-Sea. She is also survived by son-in-law Abram Goodstein. In addition, Ann was surrounded by a dedicated circle of loving friends in the weeks before her passing.

Ann and Barry settled in Astoria in 1981, and jointly opened Astoria Chiropractic. Since coming to the coast, Ann launched two popular radio programs on the local community radio station KMUN: “Digging in the Dirt,” in 1997, a master gardener-based gardening program, and “To Your Health,” which explored many conversations about complementary and alternative health.

In addition to being a founding member of the KMUN Guidelines Committee, Ann served on the Astoria Co-op Board, Astoria Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and was an active member of many other community organizations.

From 2008 to 2014, Ann served as president of the Oregon Chiropractic Association. She also served as an Astoria High School football team doctor. Ann took great pride in creating Soup Night, a monthly neighborhood gathering to share soup and good cheer, and Congregation Beit Salmon, the first formal Jewish organization in Astoria since 1960.

Ann’s passions included gardening, integrative health, fitness, knitting, music, singing, Jewish culture, art and community building. To her friends and family, she will be remembered as a vibrant, fiercely intelligent, and giving woman. The legacy of her contribution to our community is profound and her loss is felt by many.

A traditional Jewish funeral service will be held at the Performing Arts Center in Astoria on 16th and Franklin, on Thursday, Jan. 28, at noon. All family and friends are invited.

A reception will be held immediately following the funeral at the Fort George Lovell Showroom on Duane and 16th streets. The family invites you to share stories and music to cherish her memory. To honor Ann’s favorite type of gathering, potluck is encouraged, enhanced by food from Fulio’s and Fort George Brewery and Public House.

Ann asked that donations in her name be to CASA, The Harbor and VOCA, in lieu of floral tributes. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral and reception.
