Jefta Norman Koljonen

December 23, 1946 — February 2, 2016

“Norman” Koljonen passed away at his home in Astoria, Oregon, on Feb. 2nd, 2016, after an extended illness, at the age of 69. Norman was born in Astoria on Dec. 23, 1946, to Ephraim and Tillie (Scheffler) Koljonen, and remained an Astoria resident most of his life. He married Charlotte “Beth” Schull in 1986. Both Norman and Beth were employed through, and under the care of Coast Rehabilitation. They were members of the First Baptist Church. Norman loved to meet with relatives and friends. Many will remember him ending his phone calls by saying “God’s peace to all of you there,” which exemplified his Christian faith. Norman is survived by his wife, Beth, and his siblings: Ephraim (Judy) of Covington, Washington; Tillie (Ron) Frazier of Epoufette Bay, Michigan; Wesley of Hillsboro, Oregon; Donald of Denver, Colorado; Steve (Barb) of Longview, Washington; George (Margaret) of Westport, Oregon; Bessie (Roger) Tormanen of Battle Ground, Washington; Christine Beery of Springfield, Oregon; Chester (Joanne) of Vancouver, Washington; and many nephews, nieces and friends. He received his education at Fairview Training Center of Salem, where he also met his special friend of 59 years, Paul Charles Wood, of Portland. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 10th, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria, followed by Services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at Stewart Creek Cemetery in Quincy, Oregon, where his parents are buried. A potluck will follow at the Clatskanie River Inn.
