Marjorie May Aho

Marjorie “Margie” Aho, 85, of Svensen, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in Astoria.

She was born May 1, 1930, to William C. and Rosie (Olson) Johnson. She attended Knappa Schools and graduated in 1948.

She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Marshall Aho, in 1950. He preceded her in death in 2006.

Margie lived most of her life in the Knappa/Svensen area, except for a few years that she lived in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.

For most of her life she was a loving wife and mother, and was employed at Grove’s Poultry Processing and was a waitress at the Svensen Cafe.

She and Marshall loved to travel, making lots of short trips to the Oregon Coast to look for seashells and agates, sightseeing in the Northwest, or going to Reno with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking and collecting Santa Claus figurines.

She loved most of all sports, watching her grandchildren play softball and basketball and following the Loggers on their many trips to the state tournament in Pendleton. Later in life, Margie loved her weekly visits to the “Pig” restaurant for biscuits and gravy, “Thank you so much girls!”

She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids with all her heart, and her little pug, Missy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Croos family — you are a very special family — and the ER and MedSurg staff at Columbia Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Bill, Wally, Bud; sister, Rose Marie Oja; and brother-in-law, Dick Hempstead.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Rusty Donaldson; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joyce Aho; grandson, Kurt Donaldson; granddaughter, Shannon Aho Lackey (Kenny); great-granddaughters, Miriam Donaldson and Zoey Lackey; brother, Corkey Johnson; sister, Marlene Hempstead; and sisters-in-law, Ellen Tweet, Betty Aho Bagley and llene Johnson.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Knappa Schools Foundation, 42915 Highway 30, Astoria, OR 97103, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. A viewing will be on Thursday, March 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. At Margie’s request there will be no service.
