Freida was born in Astoria to Martha and Rassie Jorgusen on July 24, 1917. She grew up in Seaside, attending school and graduating from high school with honors at the age of 16. She was the eldest of four siblings; Mary, Renny and Alan preceded her in death.
Dancing to the “Big Bands” was all the rage. Guy Lombardo’s band even played at The Bungalow in Seaside. It was at this type of venue that Freida met Orvo Piippo from Astoria. They were married in 1939, and raised three children, Diane, Janet and Jim.
Freida and Orvo were married 70 years before his passing in December 2009. They had lots of good times shared with friends, going dancing every Saturday night, playing cards and entertaining at home. Freida loved to cook, and hosted many luncheons for friends and special occasion gatherings with the family. Sometimes at Thanksgiving there were 35 to 40 relatives. Everyone loved her baking, especially all the neighborhood kids.
Freida passed away peacefully at home Sunday, March 6, with her family at her side.
She is survived by her children, Diane Kinney, Janet Piippo and Jim Piippo (wife, Nickie); three grandchildren, Bryan Salo, Josh Piippo (wife, Dawn) and Michael Kinney (wife, Cheryl); four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you for their “TLC” to Dr. Robert Law, Lower Columbia Hospice providers and to Jeani, Jody and Vicki.
Donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
As per Freida’s request, there will be no memorial service.
