Richard “Dick” R. Davis Sr., a Gearhart, Oregon, resident, passed away in Astoria, Oregon, on March 10, 2016, at the age of 82. He was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Astoria, Oregon, to parents Russell and Ruby Davis. Dick was raised in Warrenton, Oregon, and graduated from Warrenton High School in 1952. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Dick married his high school sweetheart, Rose Marie Stilwell, in 1955 and they had three children, Rick, Ron and Donna Davis. Many people knew Dick from his work with Safeway, where he had a 35-year career. He retired from the Seaside, Oregon, Safeway store in 1993 as the store manager. He made a lifetime of friends in the grocery business. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish, hunt and play golf at the Astoria Golf & Country Club. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family, where he was seen as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend. Dick was a strong Christian and attended North Coast Family Fellowship church in Seaside, Oregon, where he modeled his love for the Lord, and formed unbreakable bonds with members of the church. He had a great sense of humor, with a passion for life that was evident to all who knew him. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, John, Ralph, Bob, and Wink Davis. He is survived by his wife, Rose; sisters, Patricia “Ann” Maize of Warrenton, Oregon, and Beanie Johnsen of Sweet Home, Oregon; children, Rick (Jeanette) Davis of Warrenton, Oregon, Ron (Victoria) Davis of Astoria, Oregon, and Donna Davis of Salem, Oregon; grandchildren, Chad (Karri) Davis of Bend, Oregon, Heidi Terese of Vancouver, Washington, Todd Davis of Chandler, Arizona, Matthew (Hannah) Davis of Warrenton, Oregon, and Michelle Aleman of Portland, Oregon; and great-grandchildren, Connor and Carson Davis (Chad and Karri) and Gavin Davis (Matthew and Hannah). Dick’s memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the North Coast Family Fellowship church in Seaside, Oregon, on Sunday, March 20, beginning at 3 p.m. His graveside service will be held at the Willamette National Military Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, on Monday, March 21, at 2 p.m. Dick was a proud Marine who loved his country, and supported our troops, and will receive a full military honor burial.
