Norma Isabell Gillingham

August 23, 1926 — April 25, 2016

Norma Gillingham, age 89, of Hammond/Brownsmead, passed away Monday, April 25th, 2016. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Sarah and Edwin Shinabery on Aug. 23rd, 1926. She married Norman Gillingham on July 28th, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1994.

In 1949, Norma relocated to Oregon with her husband and son, Ron, to Hammond, where she resided until 1992, then moving to Brownsmead. Her son, Ron, preceded her in death in 1984.

Norma loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included hunting trips to Eastern Oregon, camping, fishing, oil painting and caregiving. She was an active member of the senior community, and assisted with many senior events. In her early days she worked at the Point Adams Cannery, and in later years was the sweet food demo lady at Fred Meyer.

Norma is survived by her daughter Tami and her husband, Eric Carlson; grandsons Neil, Bryan and Will Carlson, all of Brownsmead; grandsons Steven Cross and Lorne Gillingham from the Portland area; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

In 2006, Norma was introduced to another precious family at Clatsop Care Center. She was deeply loved and cared for until her recent passing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clatsop Care Center. A celebration of life is planned for this summer.
