Glen William Parks

Glen William Parks was born in Long Pine, Nebraska, on March 3, 1923, to Harrell Parks and Elizabeth Copeland Parks.

He spent his early childhood in Long Pine, beginning school there then moving to Wisconsin, graduating from Washington High in New London, Wisconsin, in 1940.

He attended the Alexian Brothers Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, graduating in 1944. He received a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1951.

Glen joined the U.S. Army and served as a medical technician in Alaska and the Philippines during World War II.

In 1955, he moved to Port Angeles, Washington, and worked for the local newspaper.

He next went to Astoria, Oregon, in 1957, working as a millwright for Astoria Plywood, retiring in 1988.

Glen married Roberta Stahl in 1961 in Hillsboro, Oregon. They celebrated their 55th anniversary in July. They raised their family in Astoria, later moving to Aldercreek Village in Warrenton, where they have lived for the last 22 years.

Glen enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and was a man of great faith. He loved reading and studying the Bible. He had a gentle spirit and a kind heart.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; daughter Rachel Olson and her husband Ken; son Malcolm Parks and wife Yvonne; grandsons Paul Olson, Matthew Olson and Brandon Parks; granddaughters Ashlee Parks, Lindsey Parks and Brandi Parks; great-grandson Ethan Parks; nephew Jeffrey Parks and nieces Julia Sati, Janet Stratton and Lisa Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Parks and sister-in-law Rosie Parks and sister Carol Hartshom.

A funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary. A reception follows after the service at Warrenton Community Center, 170 S.W. Third St., Warrenton, Oregon.
