A lifetime resident of Jewell, Dennis (Denny) Erwin Olstedt passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the age of 83, in Seaside.
Denny was born in La Center, Washington, on Aug. 4, 1933, to Carl Edwin Olstedt and Beatrice Irene Christiansen Olstedt. He moved to Van Vleet Logging Camp on Gronnel Road with his family in 1934. He attended Vine Maple Grade School and graduated from Jewell High School in 1951. He married Joan Camberg in June 1952.
He began logging while still in high school, and worked for Harry Ebsen early in his logging career. He worked in logging, owning his own company until the time of his retirement in 2004. Denny was generous, and a friend to many.
Denny is survived by his three children and their spouses, Herb and Barbara, Steve and Alice and Denise and Russ. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Matt, Dan, Mikey, Ed, Roric, Molly, Maggie, Dennis, Marla, Jon, Jason, Ali and Jordan, in addition to nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Irene; his wife Joan; his wife Janis; and brothers William and Edward.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Camp 18 at 1:30 p.m.
