John Edwin Lindstrom

September 10, 1952 — October 7, 2016

John Edwin Lindstrom, a resident of Astoria, passed away on Oct. 7, 2016, in Astoria, Oregon. He was 64 years old.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1952, to Carl and Margaret Lindstrom. He attended Star of the Sea School as a child, and graduated from Astoria High School in 1971. He began his baking career while in high school. After graduation, he spent a short time in the U.S. Navy, and was given an honorable discharge. He then went to work for Bumble Bee Seafood.

Realizing his passion was baking, he went to work for Howard and Dorothy Schoen at Schoen’s Danish Maid Bakery. In 1986, John and his wife, Jan, purchased the bakery, renaming it Lindstrom’s Danish Maid Bakery, and owned it for the next 30 years.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, clam digging, old cars (which he started restoring a 1952 Chevrolet), watching sports (and in high school, playing basketball), and loving his family. Grandpa John loved his two grandchildren so much; Jacklyn, grandpa’s little girl, and Fiona, little stinker.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jan Lindstrom of Astoria; daughter Kathy Dietrich (Matt Dietrich) of Astoria; son David Lindstrom of Astoria; daughter Michelle Lindstrom (Brad Medlin) of Astoria; granddaughters Jacklyn Dietrich and Fiona Medlin of Astoria; a brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Linda Lindstrom of Keizer, Oregon; a brother, Walt Lindstrom of Astoria; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Doug Sheehan of Portland, Oregon; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Ruthie Lindstrom of Astoria, Oregon; a sister and brother-in-law, Margy and Keith Linehan of Beaverton; a sister-in-law, Carol (Lindstrom) Atwood of Astoria, Oregon; a brother-in-law, Eric Fahlstrom of Warrenton, Oregon; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kim and Isidro Pena of Albany, Oregon. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret Lindstrom; and a brother, Fred Lindstrom of Astoria.
