Doris was born in Astoria, Oregon, on June 1, 1926. Doris passed away April 18, 2017, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 90. She was the daughter of William Manske and Edith T. Nygren Manske. Doris grew up in Astoria, and graduated from Astoria High School in 1945.
Doris married Robert Player on May 9, 1948, in Astoria. Robert preceded her in death Jan. 22, 1985.
Doris worked as a telephone operator for Pacific Northwest Bell for 35 years, and she retired in 1983. Doris and Robert moved to King City, Oregon, in 1984, and Doris has resided in King City since.
Doris was a member of First Lutheran Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion Auxiliary, Swedish Lodge No. 215 and Order of Vasa, Clatsop County Historical Society and Elketts of Sherwood, Oregon.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert Player Jr. in 1967; and four brothers, David Manske, William Manske, Roger Manske and John Cunningham.
Survivors include a cousin, Loretta Luquette of Astoria, Oregon; and nieces and nephews, Sallie Comstock, Kevin Comstock, Michael Cunningham, Ken Manske and Lisa Manske.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary.
Private vault interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon.
