John Dalton Hord Ii

John D. Hord II was born on Oct. 1, 1943, to John “Dalton” and Audrey Hord in Kenton, Ohio.

He married Lois Ann Parthemore, mother of his first three children, and later divorced. In 1983, he married Deanna Hauer of Astoria, having raised two children from their 33 years of marriage.

John was preceded in death by his father, mother and dear friend Jim Peyok.

His desire to help and please others, as well as his strong faith in God, was inspiring.

A very gentle and beloved man, always willing to give and serve whenever and wherever needed. John’s entire adult life was serving: his country, with 26 years in U.S. Navy, followed by serving the community with over 25 years in law enforcement as a sheriff’s deputy and an Astoria Police officer. He was always striving to demonstrate personal traits of honor, dedication, compassion and integrity while in and out of uniform.

His “service to others” nature continued in “off duty” time by coaching the local Youth Bowling League, being an equestrian 4-H leader, a Search & Rescue and Community Emergency Response Team member, cook and volunteer at the local Loaves and Fishes (Meals on Wheels) program and an active member of Elks BPOE No. 180 and Lewis & Clark Bible Church. Many lives have been touched in the various areas of his involvement and service.

A loving and proud father of five children: Catherine (Tod) Craft of Sycamore, Ohio; John (Crystal) Hord III of Georgetown, Kentucky; Cherie (Phil) Painter of Hilliard, Ohio; Daniel (Allison) Hord of Clearwater, Florida; and Deborah (Alyssa) Hord of Astoria, Oregon. A proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren: Tabitha and Ethan Craft; JD Hord IV, Logan and Tanner Hord; Cali, Alex and “Drew” Painter; and Haisha, Gadiel and Aleandro Rivera. His beloved siblings are: Marilyn Wagner of LaRue, Ohio, Joe (Cheryl) Hord and Jim Hord of Kenton, Ohio, Joy (Tom) Mustain of Kenton, Ohio, and Greg (Christine) Hord of Akron, Indiana.

At his request there will not be a funeral service, but a private burial at a later date. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
