May Yan Leong

May Leong died on May 30, 2017, at her home. She was born in Canton, China, Feb. 3, 1927. After marrying her husband, Russell Leong (deceased in 1967), on Feb. 8, 1958, she moved to Astoria, Oregon, from Hong Kong. She is survived by their two children, Terry and Teddy Leong.

Originally known as Pacific Northwest Bell, May spent 25-plus years working for the telephone company as building custodian. She always enjoyed spending time with her daughter-in-law, Carol, and her two grandchildren, Laura and Matthew. One of her dearest friends, Betsy Baumgartner, was with her when she died peacefully.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorial gifts be made to Lower Columbia Hospice, 2111 Exchange St., Astoria, OR 97103. Their care for May was simply outstanding.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Caldwell Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon 97103, June 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. A private cemetery service will be held that afternoon at 2 p.m.
