Linda Alison Praus was born in Astoria, Oregon, on May 17, 1946, to Melvin and Elsa (Soderman) Hartill. She passed away in Astoria on May 2, 2017, at the age of 70.
Linda spent her early years on the family dairy farm in Lewis and Clark. She attended school in Astoria, and graduated from Astoria High School. Upon completion of high school, Linda went on to Oregon College of Education, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.
During her younger years, Linda was an active participant in the 4-H program. She could be seen showing her prize Holstein dairy cows at the fair each year.
In 1972, she married Leonard Praus in Vancouver, Washington. They resided in the Portland area until his death. At that time, Linda returned to her family home in Astoria to care for her father.
Linda was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where her grandparents were part of the founding fathers of that church. She volunteered with the SMART reading program in Astoria, where she shared her love of books. Linda became well known at the Clatsop County Animal Shelter, where she adopted multiple animals. Those animals were the loves of her life. She devoted her days to caring for them.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother Timothy; and infant sister, Jennifer. She is survived by numerous cousins.
There will be a time of memory for Linda at the Hartill/Olson reunion in Rainier on Saturday, July 29.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter.
