Adelbert “Dell” Warren was the son of Malcolm and Lilly Warren of Oakridge, Oregon.
He married Zephyr Myers in 1946 and together they had three sons, Stephen, Roger and Keith Warren. Stephen and his family live in Sitka, Alaska, and Roger and Keith are longtime Astoria residents.
Dell served in the U.S Naval Air Force during World War II.
He was a longtime fish hatchery manager for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and was the first Oregon Fish Commission hatchery manager to transfer to the Oregon Game Commission fish hatchery when the two merged and became the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. He became the hatchery manager of Gnat Creek steelhead hatchery in 1976. He also worked at Big Creek, Klaskanine, Sandy, Bonneville, Siletz and McKenzie fish hatcheries.
He retired as hatchery manager of Gnat Creek Fish Hatchery in 1978-79.
Dell was also a journeyman carpenter and a fire chief earlier in life.
Dell was an avid golfer and loved to snow ski, play tennis and pingpong. He was handball champion of Astoria several times back in the 1960s and he loved to swim.
Dell was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Lilly Warren, who lived in Oakridge, Oregon, and two younger brothers, Ronald Warren and Jerry Warren.
He is survived by sons Stephen Warren, Roger Warren and Keith Warren and many grandchildren.
He was a beloved son, father, grandfather and brother.
Dell and Zephyr were members of the Seaside Seventh-day Adventist Church. A memorial service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 13. All are welcome.
Burial will be at the Oakridge, Oregon, Cemetery at a date yet to be announced.
