Donna Hogan passed away Dec. 15, 2017, in Astoria, Oregon, at the age of 90.
She was born in Sturgis, South Dakota, on July 19, 1927, to the late Hubert and Elsie Powers. The family moved to Oregon in the 1930s. Donna graduated from Pendleton High School, and received a bachelor of arts degree in music from the University of Portland, where she was in the first group of women admitted to that institution. She later earned a master’s degree from the University of Oregon.
Donna taught English at Cascade High School for many years. She also taught at the American School in Taipei, Taiwan, and at Chemeketa Community College.
In 1995, she moved to Astoria, Oregon, where she spent many happy years in retirement. She was an avid gardener and a parishioner at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Astoria, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Constance Roberts, and her former husband, Ervin B. Hogan.
She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hogan; her sons, Eric and Christopher Hogan; and her grandsons, Aaron Kosmatin, Brad Medlin and Kyle Medlin. She also leaves three great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the excellent care given to Donna by Kancharla’s Grand Adult Foster Home, Providence Home Health, and Lower Columbia Hospice. There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
