Kathryn (Kitty) Jean Sarkie passed quietly Dec. 17, 2017, in Astoria, Oregon.
Kitty was born Jan. 8, 1937, to Charles and Elsie Payne in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school.
Kitty married the love of her life, Delbert Sarkie, on June 15, 1967, in Longview, Washington. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June. Kitty enjoyed her life as a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, living the past 60 years of her life in Knappa, Oregon.
Kitty was a member of the Lutheran Church, always volunteering for funeral receptions and rummage sales. Kitty was involved in the Assistance League, Red Hat Ladies, and enjoyed being a cruise ship host for 10 years.
Kitty enjoyed hobbies such as bingo and knitting hundreds of baby and children’s sweaters for family and friends. She will be dearly missed at Taco Tuesdays with her friends and her bingo buddies in Seaside.
Preceding Kitty in death were her daughters, Kathy White and Terri Leach; and a son-in-law, Henry White.
Surviving family members include her husband, Delbert Sarkie; son Paul Sarkie (Londa); son Dennis Leach (Carol); and grandchildren Lindsey and Paul Sheldon, Ronnie (Brittany) Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Jade (Kris) Svensen, Bren and Brady Leach, and Camden, Grayson, Talon and Ted.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at 11 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St. in Astoria, Oregon, with a reception to follow.
Contributions can be made in Kitty’s name to Lower Columbia Hospice, First Lutheran Church of Astoria, Oregon, the Assistance League or Knappa Sports.
