Raymond H. "Ray" Johnson, 90, of Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, in Portland.
He was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Lyons, Neb., to James and Laura Mable (Peterson) Johnson.
Raised on a farm in Nebraska, he attended Lyons High School and the University of Nebraska.
On July 11, 1943, he married Marian Peterson in Alabama. She preceded him in death.
He
served for five years in the U.S. Army and was a technical sargent in
the 134th Infantry, 35th Division anti-tank company. During World War
II, he was in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany and France.
Mr.
Johnson moved to Hialeah, Fla., and worked at Miami International
Airport as a supervising ticket agent. Later in life, he continued to
manage his farm in Nebraska. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Lions Club, Order of Masons and Shriners.
Family members said he enjoyed woodworking, cards and spending time with family.
He
is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall S. "Randy" and
Joan Johnson and Kevin B. and Judy Johnson, all of Astoria, and Rodger
A. and Paige Johnson of Silverton; a sister, Evelyn Wahlin of Fremont,
Neb.; eight grandchildren, Stuart Johnson and his wife, Jen, and
Spencer Johnson, all of Portland, Steven Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.,
Rodger Johnson Jr. and his wife, Shawne, of Toledo, Robyn Swanson and
her husband, Ben, of Corvallis, Brad Johnson of Roseburg, Laura Johnson
of Astoria and Kayla Johnson of Gresham; and three great-grandchildren,
Tanna, Ryker and Alice Johnson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Johnson.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St. in Astoria.
Interment will take place at Vista Gardens in Hialeah.
