David Michael Beck

David Michael Beck, 56, of Astoria, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, in Astoria.

He was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Portland, to Victor H. and Connie M. (Thoennes) Beck. His parents survive, residing in Scappoose.

Raised in the St. Johns area of Portland, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1972. He attended Clatsop Community College and Oregon State University, graduating with a degree in forestry.

On May 17, 1986, he married Patricia Peterson. She survives, residing in Astoria.

Mr. Beck worked for the Oregon State Department of Forestry for 28 years.

Family members said his hobbies included hunting, going for drives in the woods, fishing, especially on the Buoy 10 fishery, horses, dogs, football and basketball. He loved working on cars and pickups.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Matthew Beck of Eugene; two daughters, Angie Beck of Portland and Kira Beck of Astoria; two grandchildren, Sage Beck of Hood River and Aiden Beck of Salem: a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Al and Barbara Peterson of Svensen; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and William Wold of Warrenton, Diane and Kenyon Crafton of Scappoose and Annette and Steve Sells of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Terri Beck of Troutdale; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, David and Jeanette Peterson and Dahl Peterson, all of Astoria, and James and Connie Peterson of Chehalis, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice, in care of Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
