Marvin Leroy "Sonny" Fisher, 71, of Warrenton, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, in Astoria.
He
was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Cashmere, Wash., to Glen and LaVerna
Fisher. After two years in Washington, the family moved to Warrenton,
where he attended school. He resided in and around the Warrenton area
for the rest of his life.
On June 12, 1958, he married Lydia Hayden in Longview, Wash. They had six children. They later divorced.
In 1984, he married Carol Cota in Warrenton. They later divorced. He remained close friends with both former wives.
Mr.
Fisher worked for the Airport Crab Pot Company and the San Juan Fish
Cannery. Later, he worked at the Warrenton mill until he retired.
Family
members said he enjoyed spending time with his family, crib games with
his friends and visits with his longtime friend, Dick Mattson. He
enjoyed clam digging, canning and smoking fish and shellfish. He loved
to cook and entertain, and volunteered to cook at many oyster feed
events in the Warrenton area. He loved the town of Warrenton and would
stop by the Warrenton boat basin every day to see what fishing boats
were in and out.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Fisher of
Emmett, Idaho, and Ronald Fisher of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Rick Martin of Emmett and Kristen and Gary
Baird of Astoria; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Leta Pelican of
Port Angeles, Wash., and Liz and Fred Wildgrube of Elsie; nine
grandchildren, Melissa Cokley and her husband, Mike, of Knappa,
Jennifer Bergerson and her husband, Chris, of Warrenton, Sara Jenson
and her husband, Joel, of Dundee, Michelle Smith and her husband,
Jason, and Mindy Wheatly, all of Emmett, Miranda Moran of Weiser,
Idaho, and Randy Layman and Brian and Luke Van Gundy, all of Astoria;
14 great-grandchildren, Tripp and Rhett Cokley, Haley, Charlie, Ben and
Oliva Bergerson, Taylor and Trista Jenson, Chasity Ballard, Jordan
Smith, Lia and Jada Wheatley and Jayden and Janessa Moran; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two children, Kimberly and Randall Fisher; and a sister, Charlotte Biddle.
A
memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Warrenton Baptist
Church, 30 NE First St. in Warrenton. A reception will follow at the
church.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery, 91569 Highway 202 in Astoria.
Memorial
contributions may be given to the Oregon Heart Fund or a charity of
one's choice, in care of Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin
Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
