Naomi Jean Smith

Naomi "Jean" (Smith) Rosenlund, 82, of Astoria, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in Astoria.

She was born March 27, 1927, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Oral P. and Edith Cole Smith. The family came to the U.S. in 1936. They lived in Republic, Wash., moving to Spokane, Wash., in 1941.

In 1946, she married Jack Rosenlund. He survives, residing in Seaside.

Mrs. Rosenlund became a U.S. citizen Oct. 24, 1956. She and her husband opened a bakery in Pasco, Wash., for a few years. She then worked as the bakery sales manager in many Albertsons Grocery Stores in the Gresham area for several years. In 1982, the couple moved to Brighton, where they lived for 24 years. In 2006, they moved to the Clatsop County area.

She volunteered, furnishing information and directions to travelers in the Red Caboose in Rockaway for several years.

Family members said her hobbies included knitting, playing bridge and cribbage and walking on the beach. She enjoyed rainy days, rainbows and birds.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve Rosenlund of Rainier and Mark and Sharon Rosenlund of Portland; and a daughter, Dawn Rosenlund of Portland.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Rosenlund, in 2002.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. March 12 at Necanicum Village Assisted Living, 2500 S. Roosevelt Drive in Seaside.
