Darrell G. Pitman, 66, of Seaside, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, in Seaside.

He was born Feb. 14, 1944, in Roy, Ark., to George and Flo Belle (Joslin) Pitman. His mother preceded him in death.

Raised in Rudy, Ark., Mr. Pitman came to Oregon from California in 1970. He worked as a chef at Pier 11 Restaurant in Astoria, and also was a truck driver.

Family members said he loved to hunt and fish, and he passed this passion on to his children. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, William Pitman of London, Jeff Pitman of Tigard and Craig Pitman of Knappa; a daughter, Kathy Beatty of Seaside; a sister, Norma Pitman of Klamath Falls; three brothers, Roger Pitman of Fresno, Calif., Larry Pitman of Gresham and Charlie Pitman of Clovis, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Troy "Gene" Pitman; a brother, Bill Pitman; and a sister, Loretta Pitman.

A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 11 at the family home, 36800 U.S. Highway 26 in Seaside.
