Mark Anthony Chilson, 53, of Astoria, died Monday, May 10, 2010, in Astoria.
He was born March 17, 1957, in Goldendale, Wash., to Kenneth and Betty Lucille (Leis) Chilson. His mother survives, residing in Astoria. His father preceded him in death Oct. 7, 1989.
He received a general equivalency diploma.
He served in the U.S. Army for one year. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Aircraft Crewman Badge and the Rifle Marksman Badge.
At the age of 15, Mr. Chilson started cooking in the family restaurant. He then worked in welder-fabrication. He started his trucking business in 2005, and worked there until his death.
He was a member of the Eagles, American Legion and Moose Lodge.
Family members said he loved doing the Christmas party for Coast Rehabilitation and the Eagles and fishing on his boat with friends. His truck was his number one love when out on the road.
He is survived by two brothers, Jack Chilson of Gresham and Jerry Chilson of Sandy and their families; two sisters, Lori Chilson of Washington and Terrill Farris of Lake Bay, Wash., and their families; a companion, Lorrie Medal of Astoria; four nephews and four nieces and their families; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Clatsop Post 12 American Legion, 1132 Exchange St., Astoria.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
