Karen Lynn Gerttula

Horse trainer, stable manager,
Karen Lynn Gerttula, 44, of Knappa, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, in Astoria.

She was born Dec. 1, 1965, in Portland, to Lois I. Stunkard Hawley and Lyle Glen Klessig. Her parents preceded her in death.

Raised in Knappa, she graduated from Knappa High School in 1983. She attended the University of Portland and graduated from Oregon State University.

She married Scott Gerttula. He survives, residing in Knappa.

Mrs. Gerttula was a horse trainer and stable manager at Alderwood Stables, which she owned and operated along with her husband.

Family members said her hobbies included calligraphy and painting.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Kirby Klessig of Knappa; and a mother-in-law, Marie Gerttula of Astoria.

At Karen's request, there will be no services.
