John D. Palmrose Sr.
Truck driver, 74 John D. Palmrose Sr., 74, of Astoria, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at home. He was born Oct. 15, 1935, in Astoria, to John Ivar and Emma (Niemi) Palmrose. Raised in Astoria, he graduated from Star of the Sea School. On May 22, 1955, he married Loretta Riser in Astoria. The couple recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. In his early years, Mr. Palmrose worked for Bumble Bee Seafoods and was an Astoria fireman. Later, he worked for TP Freight and drove tanker for Johnson Oil until he retired in 2004. For more than 46 years, he was a Jehovah's Witness. He served as a congregation elder, volunteering hundreds of hours teaching the Bible and helping many as a counselor and friend. Family members said he touched many lives in a positive way. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Darice and Terry Allen of Astoria; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Jane Palmrose of Warrenton and John Palmrose Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Astoria; six grandchildren, Wendy and Kami Allen, Troy Palmrose, Keeleigh Whelden and Brennan Palmrose, all of Astoria, and Chad Mason of Roseburg; and three great-grandchildren, Amaya Allen, Teegan Whelden and Bradley Mason, all of Astoria. A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Astoria. Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Building Fund, 1760 Seventh St., Astoria, OR.?97103.
