Lewis Leroy Richardson Sr.

Lewis LeRoy Richardson Sr. Astoria resident, age 94 of Astoria, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at home. He was born June 13, 1916, in Roy, Idaho, to Merle Frank and Nell Blanche (Bishop) Richardson. In January 1939, he married Dorothy Kathleen (Krieger) Richardson in Lewiston, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 2005. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He received the Rifleman Medal, Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal. Mr. Richardson worked at Crown Zellerbach Mill in Camas, Wash., from April 4, 1939, to Feb. 1, 1979. He moved to Astoria in 2005. He was a member of the United Papermakers and Paperworkers Union, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association. Family members said he was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved growing roses. He is survived by a son, Lewis Richardson Jr. of Astoria; a granddaughter, Celeste Petersen and her husband, Ernie, of Astoria; two great-granddaughters, Cala and Nana Petersen of Astoria; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Krieger of Pilot Hill, Calif., and Rita Bishop of Roanoke, Va. He was preceeded in death by a granddaughter, Charlotte Richardson, in 2008; a brother, Stanley Lyle Richardson, in 1952; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Richardson, in 2006. A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave. Inurnment will be at Camas Cemetery in Camas.
