Carlotta Marie Strandberg
Teacher, 75 of Warrenton, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria.

She was born June 27, 1935, in Astoria, to Carl Martin and Mary Esther (Nuttle) Nyland.

She received a bachelor's degree from Oregon College of Education and a master's degree from the University of Portland. She did graduate work at Seattle Pacific College, University of Oregon and several other colleges.

On June 7, 1959, she married Peter R. Strandberg in Astoria. He survives, residing in Warrenton.

Mrs. Strandberg was a teacher in Hillsboro, Honolulu, South San Antonio, Texas, Eugene, Olney-Lewis & Clark Kindergarten and Warrenton. She retired in 1995.

She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, a life member of American Association of University Women, and a former member of the Oregon Association for Education of Young Children. She was also a member of Daughters of American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Vasa Order of America, Oregon College of Education Alumni Association, University of Portland Alumni and the Astoria Regatta Anchors.

Family members said she was a descendent of Kansas pioneer cattle ranchers, and was actively involved in the stewardship of tall grass prairie. She traveled to Japan and Scandinavia.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Peter (Rick) and Mari Strandberg of Svensen; a daughter, Carrie Strandberg and her companion, James Chavez, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Justin Richard Strandberg of Svensen and Lacey Kristina Thornton and Anthony Jordan Chavez of Phoenix; a great-grandson, Karl Strandberg of Brookings; several cousins, nieces and nephews; cousins Dana and Michael Berny of Astoria; and family members residing in Kansas.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at Peace Lutheran Church, located at 12th and Exchange streets.

Private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery in Astoria.
